History of ACI
Costitution
The Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) originates from the constitution, in 1898, of the Turin Automobile Club. The following year, the Turin Club assumed the name of Club Automobilisti d'Italia (Italian Motorists Club). The Unione Automobilistica Italiana (UAI or Italian Motorists Association) was established in February 1904, at a meeting held in Turin. Finally, the National body known as the Automobile Club d'Italia was established on 25 January 1905.
The ACI became a non-profit organisation by decree no. 2481 of 14/11/1926, and the head offices were transferred to Rome in 1928 when it changed its name to Reale Automobile Club d'Italia (Royal Automobile Club of Italy). The more specifically sporting activities were, until the war, assigned to the Federazione Automobilistica Sportiva Italiana (FASI or Italian Motor Sports Federation). Following the constitution of the Italian Republic, it returned to its original name, Automobile Club d'Italia. The sports activities within its scope are now delegated to the Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana (CSAI or Italian Motor Sports Commission). The Federation is listed in Law no. 426 of 16/2/1942 (as FASI).
