Italy's Welcome Ceremony at the Olympic Village

The Italian national anthem sounds out across the Olympic Plaza in the Village of PyeongChang, the tricolore overlooks the scene: Italy’s mission at the Winter Olympic Games has officially begun. A brief but colourful ceremony, illuminated by sunshine, welcomed Italy to the harsh Korean soil. Head of Mission Carlo Mornati received the salute and formal gift from the Mayor of the Village, table tennis Olympian Ryu Seung-Min, alongside hearty encouragement for an unforgettable experience. CONI President Giovanni Malagò and Managing Director of Coni Servizi, Alberto Miglietta, attended the ceremony, in addition to a large delegation of hosts, sponsors and state representatives, including the Italian Ambassador for Seoul, Marco della Seta. 4 other Nations took part in the Event: Malta, Georgia, Chinese Taipei and Togo. Also present were retired Italian luger and Olympic legend Armin Zoeggeler, nominated in the IOC’s quota of athletes, Italian cross-country skiers Bertolina, Rigoni and Zelger and lugers Voetter and Robatscher.
