Swimming concludes with bronze for Carini in the 200 Butterfly

NANJING 2014 - NUOTO - GIACOMO CARINIAt the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Natatorium, on the final day of the swimming program, the young Italian went down into the water with five finalists, to try to end well. But only Giacomo Carini from Piacenza succeeded there, bronze in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 1:58:14, just behind the Hungarian pair Tamas Kenderesi, gold with 1:55:95, and Benjamin Gratz, second with 1:57: 71. "I improved my personal best by half a second, from 1:58:66! It is a great feeling - said the 17 year old of Aqvasport in the mixed area - After the silver in the 4x100, a medal all of my own! Today in the pool I felt really fit, even in the warm-up, I knew I could do well. But I did not expect to improve it so much. Obviously it is the Olympic atmosphere, we are all under more pressure here. I'll take a week or two of vacation now, then the winter season in short course starts. I am thinking of the European Games in Baku, another great opportunity to show what I can do, then there will be the World Junior Championships in Singapore. We hope to be able to take other major sets. I dedicate the bronze to my family, who always follows me. At home they woke up at dawn to cheer for me, I hope I have repaid them!". Among other youth Walter Bolognani and Luca Corsetti were not able to get on the podium, but they have got very close, with everyone improving apart from Quadarella, their personal best. Not that it is going badly for the Aniene Rowing Club's girl from Rome, but after the extraordinary time in the 800m freestyle, by Simona, we expected much more than 4:15:05, in the 400m, which is good enough for sixth place. Identical placement for Simone Sabbioni in the 200m backstroke, with the difference that the girl from Rimini has been left behind with 2:00:33, while having improved by a second her own personal best (2:01:36). Claudia Tarzia in the women's 100m butterfly with 59.38 (from her previous 59:53) and Alessandro Bori in the men's 100m freestyle with 49.65 (in qualifying he had already dropped for the first time under 50 with 49:91) must make do, however, with 4th place, which is difficult to digest by definition. Swimming, therefore, returns from Nanjing with a total haul of 7 medals (4 O. - 1 A - 2 B.) compared to 5 in Singapore, of which only one gold. Italia Tem, with the title in cycling this morning and the third place of Carini rises to 17 YOG podiums places.
