IOC Commission in Valtellina, second day of visits with a tour in Livigno and Bormio

3aprileAn abundant and evocative snowfall accompanied the second day of Valtellina visits of the IOC Evaluation Commission for the Milan Cortina bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Valtellina. The international delegation, led by Octavian Morariu, started the inspection from Livigno, reaching the sites intended to host the snowboard and freestyle competitions, continuing the visit in the Olympic Village area and the Valdidentro Paralympic venue.

 

Mayor Damiano Bormolini, Vice Mayor Remo Galli, together with the Undersecretary in charge of large sporting events of the Lombardy Region Antonio Rossi, the Regional Councilor in charge of Montagna, Local Authorities and small Municipalities, snowboarder Olympic Michela Moioli (gold at PyeongChang2018), and former skier Giorgio Rocca, the President of the Promotion and Touristm Development Company Livigno, Luca Moretti did the honors. The delegation visited the various potential sites, together with the CONI President Giovanni Malagò, Secretary General Carlo Mornati, bid coordinator Diana Bianchedi, and the managers and officials of the Italian National Olympic Committee following the project. Vice Mayor of Cortina Luigi Alverà also attended. 

 

After approximately three hours, the group left Livigno to head to Bormio envisaged to host the men's alpine skiing competitions. Among those present was the former skier Pietro Vitalini together with Giorgio Rocca, and Federica Sossi, who suffered a serious injury and was a SuperG World Junior Champion. Starting tomorrow, the delegation will end the tour with the three-day visit in Milan, visiting, among other sites, also San Siro, where the opening ceremony is expected to be held. On Friday, a seminar is scheduled at Palazzo Reale, in Piazza Duomo, and, on Saturday, the press conference at Palazzo Marino will conclude the week of the visit of the IOC Evaluation Commission.
