The women's team foil continues its tradition of always being on the podium. Even though the world geography has expanded, the Italian women's foil team has never left the Games without a medal since 1984. Even this time, the bronze medal was enough to maintain continuity.

After beating Hungary (45-32) in the first match, Arianna Errigo, Alice Volpi and Martina Batini could not withstand the furious return of the French trio in the semifinals, losing narrowly 43-45 after leading in seven of the nine assaults.

In the final against the United States, however, the Italian women put all the necessary technique and tenacity on the floor to dominate the match. As a result, the competition ended with a large lead of 45-23.

There was also room for Erika Cipressa, who, starting as a reserve, contributed in the seventh period to the final victory by slipping a partial of 5 to 1 to the American Massialas, who with Kiefer and Ross never had a partial advantage throughout the match.

For the Italy team this is the 19th medal at Tokyo 2020.
