Sport can help boost tourism in Italy. With this aim, a memorandum of understanding between the Italian National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Tourism was signed today at CONI. The agreement was signed in the Salone d'Onore by CONI President Giovanni Malagò and Minister Massimo Garavaglia, in the presence of CONI Secretary General Carlo Mornati, CONI Vice-President Silvia Salis, the Minister's Councillor for Sports Tourism Manuela Di Centa, ENIT Managing Director Roberta Garibaldi, as well as numerous presidents of national sports federations and representatives of sports and military organisations.

At the opening, President Malagò stated "I am very happy about this agreement. We have many things to do and so many ideas to develop together with the Ministry of Tourism. Sport and tourism are linked, and it is no coincidence that in several municipalities, for example in Rome, one person is responsible for both delegations. This agreement has an important value for the role of Minister Garavaglia, whom I thank, and for what this synergy and our link with the industrial and tourism system means'.

Minister Garavaglia was also satisfied: "With this agreement, we want to do concrete things, i.e. increase GDP and jobs. The combination of sport and tourism is powerful. Think of the Olympics as the most watched event in the world: Milan-Cortina 2026 is a huge opportunity, so we have to get organised. This is what the agreement is all about: finding rapid forms of organisation. But sport is also widespread in practice, it’s not just about the big events: that is why we go beyond that, it has great potential”.
