CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio today presented the Palma d’Oro for Technical Merit to Andrea Capobianco, Head Coach of the Italian women’s national basketball team and President of the FIP National Coaches Committee.

Opening the proceedings of the FIP Federal Council, held in the Salone d’Onore at CONI, Buonfiglio paid tribute to the career of a coach who last year guided the Azzurre to the bronze medal at the Women’s EuroBasket, taking Italy back onto the continental podium after 30 years and also receiving from FIBA the award for best coach of the tournament. In 2026, the national team led by Capobianco returned to the World Cup after 32 years.

The award ceremony, held before the Federal Council, was attended by FIP President Gianni Petrucci, Vice Presidents Federico Casarin and Margaret Gonnella, and Secretary General Maurizio Bertea.
